New X Factor format gets thumbs down

Over two thirds of X Factor fans, who voted in our poll, don't like the changes which have been made to the series.

An overwhelming 70% said that they preferred the programme's old format, which saw auditions taking place behind closed doors with only the judges present.

The talent show returned to ITV1 on Saturday night with auditions taking place in arenas in front of a huge live audience for the first time.

Yahoo! user Gstranex said: "I didn't like the new format very much. To have a live audience for the televised auditions surely takes away from 'getting through to the final in front of a live audience.'

Comparisons have also been drawn between the show and ITV1's other big talent search Britain's Got Talent - Georginaappleby said: "With the audience it just seemed far too similar - the only thing missing was the buzzers!"

However, the changes didn't have much of an impact on viewing figures for the show. An average of 9.9 million viewers tuned in, which was just down very slightly on the 10.19 million who watched the first episode last year.

X Factor judge Simon Cowell has said that he will personally take the blame if the changes to the format do not prove a success with viewers.

Is it time then for Simon to admit it was a mistake? Will you be watching again next week? Let us know...

if were going to have x factor lets keep it that way, otherwise just keep it to one show like Britains got singing talent and leave it to that, it wasnt enjoyable to watch, probably saw 3 people actually sing out of all the auditions of the first show, my head was spinning with all the cameras just zooming around like flies, it was appalling i really dont think ill be watching the show again, it was a farse.. loved the new Xfactor format.before you could watch the jugdes reject someone you thought was good now you can see the audience does influence the judges decision making so everyone is happy.

Contestants are going to be very nervous with such a big audience, I do agree that there should be an audience, but not of that size! it was humongous! there only should be 30 people in the audience in my opinion, the first round is all about finding potential, by having such a big audience you won't find much. There's only a handful of people that can do this.

I much prefered it the way it was before because now there won't be much difference between the auditions and the live shows. I thought it was much more exciting with the added pressure for the contestants going from auditions to live shows. Besides now hardly anyones going to to funny stuff because there is a really big audience.
