BBC axes Robin Hood

The BBC has axed Saturday night drama Robin Hood after ratings fell to just 1.7 million.

The show once attracted audiences of up to eight million viewers, however, ratings for the current series have been much lower and the final episode was shunted to BBC Two to make way for Wimbledon coverage.

The shocking last episode of series three saw Robin killed off, along with several of the other main characters, so it is perhaps no surprise that the series will not be returning.

Greg Brenman, head of drama at Tiger Aspect (who produced the show), said: "We have been immensely proud to be the most recent custodians of the Robin Hood legend. From the outset it was our ambition to find an exciting and modern way of interpreting our version of the hero and his legendary life. We are sad to be saying goodbye to this much-loved project."

The decision to axe Robin Hood comes just weeks after ITV axed its Saturday night family drama Primeval. Earlier this year it was revealed that ITV's Demons would also not be returning after just one series.

There had been a revival of Saturday night tea-time drama since the successful relaunch of Doctor Who in 2005, however, the axing of these three dramas would appear to signal a return to entertainment and reality shows, which are much cheaper to produce.

It was a BAAADD version of Robin Hood.I actually though the series was better at the end, though darker--I noticed the costumes were more appropriate too than the hodge podge in the beginning. But the characters acted scizophrenic! One minuted Robin, despite losing his 'one love' was snogging Guy's sister, then Kate, then back again--Guy was the one who seemed more tortured by Marion's death and even though he was 'evil', you felt more empathy for him. Jonas Armstrong had to be one of the weediest, least attractive Robin too; always looked like he was constipated with his creased brow lowering to near-neanderthal levels. The PC stuff was a problem. The new Tuck was an excellent actor and did his best, but if they were to introduce a black character, they needed to explain WHY he was there and from where, not pretend he was somehow mysteriously indigenous to England. I could have accepted it with a plausible reason, but the way it was shown was revisionist cr*p,and insulting to everyone, including minorities.

I am an American who has enjoyed BBC shows in the past. But every show I have seen over the last 10 years has been so politically correct I can't get past it. Everyone is sleeping around, abortion is no big deal, everyone is in an interracial relationship, Chritianity is for idiots, apparently your population is 50% gay, and every white Christian male is evil. It is oppresive!

They ruined the show with killing Marian, and then they decided to fill it with drivel from every other show on the air, I mean making Guy and Robin related? And I mean they seem to have forgotten the target audience of this show, they don't put in blood and such because it is a family show and kids watch, but that doesn't stop them from making this show a little less than kid friendly. Back to Marian, when she died and they tried to replace her with another @#$%, that just completely ruined it, she is MAID MARIAN, goodness. And them losing Djaq and Will at the same time... The show ended at the right time, now I can go watch Merlin and pray that they don't mess up too.
