An X Factor contestant has reportedly threatened to kill herself after failing an audition for the show.

The woman, who was in her 50s, became hysterical after getting a 'no' from all four judges at a recording in London earlier this week, reports The Sun.

A witness told the paper: "She ran off, shouting that she was going to commit suicide. The producers ran after her. An hour and a half later they were still making sure she was OK."

The distressed contestant visited the show's doctor the morning after her audition and they were satisfied that she was feeling better about the situation.

This is the first year that the X Factor production team have had a doctor on standby at the auditions. It's believed they decided to have a medic on the set following Susan Boyle's meltdown on Britain's Got Talent.

There is added pressure for this year's contestants as the auditions are being held in front of a live audience.

Do you think shows like The X Factor put hopefuls under too much pressure? Is enough being done to help those who don't make it through? Let us know what you think...

I went to the show last night and it was great. If anything I think performing infront of a live audience helped because if the contestants were nervous or struggling the audience encouraged them. There is no booing like BGT. At the end of the day it takes a certain type of person to put themselves forward for these shows, no one is forcing them to do it, and its not like its a new concept they should know what to expect.

Part of the problem is that the judges round is not the first round they go through. They go through a screening stage where they are earmarked as possible contestants or possible jokes. The truly deluded think they are getting somewhere, only to discover that they were only being called back to be laughed at. Frankly anyone who goes on this show without getting a brutally honest oppinion from at least ten friends deserves to be laughed at. I know I can't sing - whenever i do people ask me not to. I'm not going to go to Simon Cowell to see if everyone else was wrong.

Its just a shame that they don't all, judges included, top themselves and do the world a favour. Hopeless individuals desperate for their 5 minutes of fame, pathetic.

Stupid bitch, grow up! You're 50 and there's people out there with REAL problems. I'd have handed her a sharp knife and drawn a guideline on her wrist!

i think only people under the age of 40 should be allowed to enter xfactor. anybody over that age seems not to be able to cope with the pressures of the show. ( and i am 45 )
