X Factor suicide threat

An X Factor contestant has reportedly threatened to kill herself after failing an audition for the show.

The woman, who was in her 50s, became hysterical after getting a 'no' from all four judges at a recording in London earlier this week, reports The Sun.

A witness told the paper: "She ran off, shouting that she was going to commit suicide. The producers ran after her. An hour and a half later they were still making sure she was OK."

The distressed contestant visited the show's doctor the morning after her audition and they were satisfied that she was feeling better about the situation.

This is the first year that the X Factor production team have had a doctor on standby at the auditions. It's believed they decided to have a medic on the set following Susan Boyle's meltdown on Britain's Got Talent.

There is added pressure for this year's contestants as the auditions are being held in front of a live audience.

Do you think shows like The X Factor put hopefuls under too much pressure? Is enough being done to help those who don't make it through? Let us know what you think...

unfortunatley - this woman clearly has problems other than x factor going on and probably needs genuine help - whether she wants to admit it or not.. these are entertainment shows, and we 'the audience' have to share some responsibilty, as if we didn't watch them - they wouldn't make them- having read Ben Eltons 'chart throb' i see these shows in a whole new light! - (Just do the math!!)

I hope we don't get the "Off, off, off" like on Britain's Got Talent, with the live audience! That is so annoying!

This story is not completely accurate. The singer doesn't get to meet the judges until the 3rd stage of the audition, therefore they must have been put through twice. The only way they get to the 3rd stage is if the producers think they have a chance, or if they think they are truly awful and would make good TV. The singer is not told that they are bad and are going to be laughed at when they are put through or they wouldn't turn up; their hopes are built up. Someone was bound to react like this eventually.
