An X Factor contestant has reportedly threatened to kill herself after failing an audition for the show.

The woman, who was in her 50s, became hysterical after getting a 'no' from all four judges at a recording in London earlier this week, reports The Sun.

A witness told the paper: "She ran off, shouting that she was going to commit suicide. The producers ran after her. An hour and a half later they were still making sure she was OK."

The distressed contestant visited the show's doctor the morning after her audition and they were satisfied that she was feeling better about the situation.

This is the first year that the X Factor production team have had a doctor on standby at the auditions. It's believed they decided to have a medic on the set following Susan Boyle's meltdown on Britain's Got Talent.

There is added pressure for this year's contestants as the auditions are being held in front of a live audience.

Do you think shows like The X Factor put hopefuls under too much pressure? Is enough being done to help those who don't make it through? Let us know what you think...

Absolutely ridiculous. If this woman honestly believes she has talent, why on earth has she waited until the age of 50 to prove it on this show? Has she ever tried to progress her career elsewhere or is she a delusional idiot who craves15 minutes of fame which this programme gives her. She is clearly rubbish and/or soft in the head.

i think it is extremely difficult in that both the contestants, the producers and judges need to all keep their eye on the ball. To be aware that alot of the people who apply to be part of the show are fragile humans

This story is not completely accurate. The singer doesn't get to meet the judges until the 3rd stage of the audition, therefore they must have been put through twice. The only way they get to the 3rd stage is if the producers think they have a chance, or if they think they are truly awful and would make good TV. The singer is not told that they are bad and are going to be laughed at when they are put through or they wouldn't turn up; their hopes are built up. Someone was bound to react like this eventually.

Pity they don't all top themselves and then we might get some decent programming for those of us with lives of our own and brains to use!

I think the whole concept is rubbish, talented "musicians" i.e those that can play a musical instrument don't stand a chance against "pretty" teenagers who can warble a few notes and disappear off the scene after a few months

I personally think that Simon cowell comments about people are a bit too demeaning and dehumanizing. how can you use a word like 'you are utterly useless, you are the most annoying I have seen ever, you are rubbish etc' I commend the program because it promotes raw talent, and bring the unseen and unheard into limelight, but it is also causing enormous amount of psychological depression to people who are lambasted by mouthy mogul Simon cowell, But I love Simon.
