An X Factor contestant has reportedly threatened to kill herself after failing an audition for the show.

The woman, who was in her 50s, became hysterical after getting a 'no' from all four judges at a recording in London earlier this week, reports The Sun.

A witness told the paper: "She ran off, shouting that she was going to commit suicide. The producers ran after her. An hour and a half later they were still making sure she was OK."

The distressed contestant visited the show's doctor the morning after her audition and they were satisfied that she was feeling better about the situation.

This is the first year that the X Factor production team have had a doctor on standby at the auditions. It's believed they decided to have a medic on the set following Susan Boyle's meltdown on Britain's Got Talent.

There is added pressure for this year's contestants as the auditions are being held in front of a live audience.

Do you think shows like The X Factor put hopefuls under too much pressure? Is enough being done to help those who don't make it through? Let us know what you think...

Utterly pathetic. Some deranged woman suddenly decides that her life is a failure because in the eyes of the judges she does not have the X factor. If she is that shocked at this then just what would she do if she really suffered a tragedy like the loss of a child or spouse. I can only assume she called the helpline when Take That split up so she could deal with the "Trauma" .

no i do not think x factor puts too much pressure on hopefuls. some are so bad they must be taking the micky. perhaps people should come with a doctors note saying they are stable. the shows been on air long enough for people to know what to expect. if they cannot accept a truthful comment then they shouldn't go for an audition. judges are not looking for mediocre or everyday singers or acts but something special, something that stands out from the crowd. it can be hard but what would be the point of being told an untruth about their talent, it would't be very helpful to them at all. they shouild listen, take the advice, as some have done, & go away to work on their act, or simply just try something else. not everyone is gifted with a special talent & its those we want to see. Ok the awful ones give some entertainment but I cannot believe that they really do not know how bad they are.

i think its a good idea to have people have auditions in front of a live audience because one it shows how they might react to this sort of situation and two it helps them build confidence quicker

The only surprise here is that it doesnt happen more often. It isnt really the fault of the shows, but it is inevitable that the auditions will attract some fairly desperate folk looking for a long-awaited break, some of whom will have psychiatric illness, and some of whom will just try anything, including all-out manipulation to try and gain an audition, without the insight to realise that this soirt of behaviour will only put everybody off even more. It is an ineivtable consequence of living in a society that appears to value celebrity more than it does actual talent, and the naive belief of many that if you want something badly enough, it is bound to happen for you. Truth is, if you're not good enough, it probably won't. And that applies to pretty much any career you may choose to mention.

Life is full of disapointments. In the entertainment business, you're only as good as you're audience sees you. If you can't stand the heat, keep out of the kitchen!
