After months of speculation it looks as though David Tennant will be staying on for the fifth series of Doctor Who in 2010.

It was expected that the actor would quit the role after four one-off specials next year, however today's Sun reports that he will be sticking with the role.

Tennant is said to be close to signing a new deal worth £1.5million to play the Doctor for the fifth series.

Fans of the show were led to believe that he would be bowing out at the end of the current season after a cliffhanger that featured him starting to regenerate.

However, it was a red herring and he is definitely confirmed to return in the role next year.

Russell T Davies, who successfully revived the show in 2005, has stepped down from his role as executive producer and will be replaced by writer Steven Moffat, who has penned some of the most acclaimed episodes of the show to date.

    By the, Phillip, I ram of the same generation and I also emember John Pertwee. Granted he was good, but David is superb in this role. The role calls for eccentricity, and David certainly portrays that aspect of the doctor to a T. Just MHO.

    cant wait to see the dr again the whole family are fans it's great saturday night tv christ knows theres nothing else on so he's worth every penny.

    I pay my license fee too and I would choose Tennant every time. I have been watching the doctor for 30 years and he is the best so far!

    yes i think he is worth the money i think david is a brillient doctor and i will look forward to his return but i would also like to see miss davidson who played the doctors daugther in series 4 to have an active roll in series 5 as his new companion perhaps

    well done BBC .. yes i know there are people who say that £ 1.5 M is a lot of money and it comes from licence fees.. But the ratings justify the cost . the BBC do recoup and syndication via other means ie. dvd sales , books . trademark leasing (AIRFIX for example paid ?? for model rights) is it good buisness sense and i congratulate them for securing mr tennant to protect future sales
