Craig Kelly is quitting Coronation Street after less than a year in the show.
The actor, who plays Luke Strong, will leave later this year in suspicious circumstances, however, his character will not be killed off.
Luke first appeared in Weatherfield in February when he arrived in the factory with the news that Carla had left him in charge of the business in her absence.
Since then he has unsuccessfully attempted to romance Michelle and next week will see him bed Rosie as he woos her in the hope she will invest in the ailing factory.
Speaking about his departure, Craig said: "I have had a ball playing Luke Strong and although it's been fun I always knew he would be a character that would enter the street in mysterious circumstances, ruffle feathers, make his mark and leave.
"Being in Corrie was something I wanted to do but I didn't want to stay too long. I am grateful for the chance to have played such a great character and to have walked the cobbled street."
Luke will appear on screen until October and his departure will pave the way for Carla's return, as actress Alison King returns from her maternity leave.
