Sir Alan Sugar urged to quit The Apprentice

Sir Alan Sugar

Sir Alan Sugar will reportedly hold talks with the BBC this week over his future on The Apprentice.

The business tycoon is under increasing pressure to quit the show after accepting a job and peerage from the Prime Minister, reports the Daily Mail.

The Conservatives have lodged a complaint with the BBC Trust, claiming that the two roles are 'totally incompatible' and in clear breach of the corporation's rules on political impartiality.

It is believed that Sir Alan refused an offer by Gordon Brown to become a Labour minister and instead opted for the role of enterprise tsar. He is also set to receive a peerage despite questions over why this is necessary when he is not to become a minister.

Sir Alan says he cleared the role with the BBC and has insisted that he is not entering politics. He said: "I wouldn't join the government. I don't see this as a political thing - I know everybody else does."

The LibDem's Treasury spokesman Lord Oakeshott has joined the Tories in opposing his appointment, claiming: "Sir Alan Sugar can't have it both ways. If he's working for the Government he can't have a conflict of interest with his BBC TV programme or his multi-million pound property empire. He should give up both."

Do you think Sir Alan should quit The Apprentice? If he does leave the show, who do you think should take over? Let us know...

I do not see how the show involves any political views whatsoever. It is a show about business and Sir Alan does not express his political viewa during the programme.

I can see why they think he should quit, people may not take him seriously. I think Sir Phillip Green should do the show. He is a friend of Sir Alan and they are similar, only my daughter works for him and he is a tyrant!!!!! That would make great TV.
