Teenage breakdancer George Sampson has triumphed in this year's Britain's Got Talent. The 14-year-old had been knocked out in the preliminary stages of last year's contest but came back to snatch top prize this time around.
This is great news. Firstly, there's no way Simon Cowell's record label is going to sell 10 million copies of this worldwide. Secondly, how refreshing to see a TV variety show won by a non-musical act.
12-year-old opera singer Faryl Smith and string quartet Escala, favourites to win this year's series, didn't make the top three. While Andrew Johnston, the bulllied 13-year-old opera singer who made the most headlines, had to settle for third place.
Interestingly, it was another dance act - the highly original Signature - who finished second in the public vote.
Did George deserve to win? Well, there's no doubt that he is an incredibly talented dancer but strip away the special effects (an on-stage rain shower) of his winning performance and we do wonder if the act is really Britain's best new talent sensation.
However, maybe we are just bitter that our personal favourite act (Gin the dog) didn't storm to victory. Let's hope Gin will come back bigger and better next year - perhaps with a Singing In The Rain routine?
What did you think of the final? Did George deserve to win? Who were your favourite acts? Let us know your thoughts...

i think the result was totally wrong i think out of the singing andrew along with faryl it was between one of those to win i think georges act was very boring.i think it should have been another dance not the samne as the semis maybe simon cowell has to take a look at the way its done

Posted by: philoakhouse on Sun Jun 01 10:55AM | Report abuseI am glad that George won i think he deserved it as for Escala why did the judges keep saying that this was a first for a string quartet does nobody remember BOND.

Posted by: pandabywater on Sun Jun 01 10:56AM | Report abuseWell done George for persevering ! Faryl, Andrew and Escala will make it now as they are household names. Simon will help them along the way I'm sure. It was a very tight final and all the acts were of a very high standard. It was in my case impossible to choose. I guess it comes down to personal taste as they were all super-talented. Well done to all !!!
Posted by: petewag56 on Sun Jun 01 10:56AM | Report abuseAlthough Escala were very good, we have seen this sort of act before - remember Bond ? They didn't do much either really - not heard of them for a while. George was brilliant, worked really hard but so did all of the others. I think it was really tough last night, but I have to admit, I would have preferred Gin the dog as it was a different sort of act, personally I've seen enough dance troups and kid dancers.
Posted by: lisawoodhead on Sun Jun 01 10:56AM | Report abuseabsolutely! it was a tough competition as so many of the acts were superb but George simply was astounding. i've never been so moved by a performance.
Posted by: sarahjbingham on Sun Jun 01 10:56AM | Report abuseFaryl Smith was an outright winner and to NOT get to the top 3 was disturbing. she totally blew me away, a natural gift has been given to this young @#$% and i hope she has a prospectful future with such a wonderful talent. good luck for the future Faryl, by far the best.
