Hollyoaks Triumphant at Soap Awards

Hollyoaks' Emma Rigby

Hollyoaks was the surprise big winner at the British Soap Awards after scooping six prizes at last night's bash.

The Channel 4 soap picked up top acting honours for stars Chris Fountain and Emma Rigby and was also awarded Best Exit, Most Spectacular Scene, Best On-Screen Partnership and Sexiest Female.

Coronation Street was a close second after picking up five awards including Sexiest Male for Rob James Collier and Best Comedy Performance for Maggie Jones, who plays the brilliant Blanche.

However, it was EastEnders that took the top award after being named Best Soap - the show's other three awards included Best Storyline for the Max and Stacey affair.

Emmerdale had to make do with just a couple of awards including Best Single Episode for baby Daniel's death.

But the biggest cheer of the night was for Corrie legend Liz Dawn who picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ill health forced Liz to quit the soap in January after playing Vera for 34 years.

What do you think of the award winners? Did Hollyoaks deserve to pick up the most trophies? Was EastEnders really the best soap of the past year? What about poor Doctors that walked away empty-handed?

Let us know what you think...

I'm glad Hollyoaks won but how can Eastenders win best soap, it is SO despressing. Even the East End things aren't that bad. And a few storylines are played again with different characters. What about Emmerdale!!!

WHAT IS THE POINT IN TELLING US WHO WON WHAT BEFORE THE TV SHOW THATS STUPID. I'am glad Emmerdale won best single episode. Even though I don't watch Emmerdale as much I did watch that and thought the acting was superb. Glad Hollyoaks won much awards they have had a great year with good storylines. Yes some of Hollyoaks casts are wooden take Louise or Mike. I think Corrie has had a pretty good year with the David Platt storyline so they deserved that. Eastenders is far too violent at the time it is aired. And I'am sick of shirley they all have annoying accents. I like Jo Joyner she has been good. The Max and Stacey storyline was good but it went on for a bit too long. Bit bored of claire because I feel she is the same as she was in Hollyoaks. I prefer Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Coronation street. As I don't feel that eastenders deserved the best soap. They have no humour and the characters are SON ANGRY TAKE SHAUN FOR INSTANCE AND SO MISERABLE ITS DEPRESSSSSSING. I'M SURPRISED THEY HAVE ALL NOT COMMITED SUCIDIE. AND BRING RICKAY AND BIAAAAANCA BACK IS POINTLESS. THERE RUBBISH AND THEY WILL HAVE NO STORYLINES TO ENETERTAIN US. BEST ACTRESS EMMA RIGBY SHE DERSERVED IT some super acting and david platt by far has been the best actor he is superb too.

Emmerdale should get more recognition especially more then Eastenders. I love the fact that Coronation street and Emmerdale and Hollyoaks have the comedy element. I think Darren In hoylloaks has been real funny this year and they have put more humour into it which is good. Whoever said before that the corrie actors are wooden needs their hearing checking. Corrie has some fine actors take Jack P sheppard he has been outstaning this year. Chris fountain is a good actor. I think the family from corrie need to go the Mortons I dont really get them and they have nothing to stay there for. Great to see Vera win she has been ace. THAT KID IN EASTENDERS THE ONE THAT HAS THE DAD FROM MANCHESTER IS SO ANNOYING AND RUBBISH HE NEEDS TO GO CANT STAND HIS @#$%EY ATTITUDE WHY HE GOT THE PART I DONT KNOW

For starters, I know Eastenders is popular (Although I'm not sure why) but "Best Soap" Dear me...That's pretty sad. All they ever do is scream at each other and brawl. I used to be an Eastenders fan but I got annoyed with it being the same all the time. I still watch a bit of it now, to keep up with what's going on but the second the screaming starts...I realize how many braincells I must have lost. It's about time Hollyoaks got to shine, though. I absolutely love that show. It's brilliantly done. The actors are wonderful, the story-lines cover real issues and are played out with out-standing talent and care. And because it's not overly dramatic with the screaming, shouting and fighting...When scenes like that do show up...It's actually exciting. It's ones of those shows that you can only dislike...If you've never watched it. Too bad about Emmerdale, too. I'm glad that they won an award for the episode of Daniels Death...That was heart-wrenching. A soap has never made me cry so much. I really felt the heartache and the pain...The acting was outstanding. And good on Corrie, too! It gets a little dull now and then but the acting and actors are wonderful and they really keep you on edge with some of their story-lines.
