Hollyoaks was the surprise big winner at the British Soap Awards after scooping six prizes at last night's bash.
The Channel 4 soap picked up top acting honours for stars Chris Fountain and Emma Rigby and was also awarded Best Exit, Most Spectacular Scene, Best On-Screen Partnership and Sexiest Female.
Coronation Street was a close second after picking up five awards including Sexiest Male for Rob James Collier and Best Comedy Performance for Maggie Jones, who plays the brilliant Blanche.
However, it was EastEnders that took the top award after being named Best Soap - the show's other three awards included Best Storyline for the Max and Stacey affair.
Emmerdale had to make do with just a couple of awards including Best Single Episode for baby Daniel's death.
But the biggest cheer of the night was for Corrie legend Liz Dawn who picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Ill health forced Liz to quit the soap in January after playing Vera for 34 years.
What do you think of the award winners? Did Hollyoaks deserve to pick up the most trophies? Was EastEnders really the best soap of the past year? What about poor Doctors that walked away empty-handed?
Let us know what you think...

Posted by: zebrazoopark on Sun May 04 12:46PM | Report abuseIt's about time Hollyoaks got some recognition. Some of the storylines and acting have been fantastic this year. People need to stop judging it just because it's full of 'beautiful' people. In the last year alone the soap has dealt with incest, abuse, rape within marriage, murder, anorexia, surrogacy...the list goes on!

Posted by: lezleyann.hampson on Sun May 04 12:54PM | Report abuseYeah definitely EastEnders is the best programme of the last twelve months. It has an outstanding body of work over the past year and continues to surpasss remarkably high standards. It was a incredible loss that Scott Maslen never won the Award for @#$%iest Male as there is no doubt he deserved to win and would have been one of few most winners of the night and quite possibly for the entire year and even in history. Congradulations to the Hollyoaks winners getting some great recognition last night, keep up the smart work everyone at Hollyoaks. Overall a magnificent evening and a range of winners thoroughly impressable.

Surprised at Hollyoaks though, but then again I haven't watched it in years so maybe it's really good now, will have to give it a look.
Posted by: karensmith292 on Sun May 04 12:55PM | Report abuseI cannot understand how or why eastenders has won best soap yet again, most of the storylines are dire, it is boring very little humour in the characters or stories. Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street have these qualities in spades, however when they are telling a dramatic story such as Daniels death there is humility, character, great understanding and empathy. Even Hollyoaks has a more vibrant nature to it s storyliines and characters.
