BBC3's excellent sitcom Gavin And Stacey was the big winner at this year's BAFTA TV awards after picking up the Audience Award and Best Comedy Performance for James Corden.

Amazingly it wasn't actually nominated in the Best Sitcom category - something that James couldn't help but mention in his acceptance speech. Channel 4's Peep Show was awarded Best Sitcom.

It was a night of surprises with Eileen Atkins pipping her Cranford co-star Judi Dench to win Best Actress. We think that one was well deserved as Eileen stole every scene in the hit BBC1 series - even though her character was only in a couple of episodes. Cranford was hotly tipped to win Best Drama Serial but in the end that award went to Channel 4's Britz.

Harry Hill picked up two awards for his brilliant TV Burp series, though his second acceptance speech was probably the most cringe-worthy of the night.

Holby City was another surprise winner - beating EastEnders, Emmerdale and The Bill to pick up the Best Continuing Drama gong (poor old Corrie wasn't even nominated).

The second and final series of Life On Mars failed to win anything, instead Best Drama Series went to The Street. US hit Heroes was a very worthy winner of Best International Show.

And of course, the night belonged to Bruce Forsyth who was presented with the BAFTA fellowship for his TV career which stretches back over 50 years.

What did you think of this year's winners? Were there any big surprises for you?
