Frozen Planet’ has become embroiled in a row over 'fake' scenes, after it was revealed that parts of the show were shot in a zoo.

Part of the series which showed a polar bear tending to its cubs has been revealed to have been filmed in a wildlife park using fake snow.

The shots were narrated by Sir David Attenborough, but no mention is made of them not being filmed in the Arctic - the fact only emerging on an extra video on the BBC website about the making of the show.

John Whittingdale of the Commons culture, media and sport committee has called the incident ‘disappointing’.

“My view has always been that all broadcasters should not seek to give viewers a false impression and it is much better if they are entirely open,” he said.

“If this was not filmed in the wild it would have been much better to have made that clear in the commentary.

“It’s questionable how many people would visit the website and find the video clip which explained the circumstances of the filming.”

David Jason has branded ‘EastEnders’ ‘dreary’. The ‘Only Fools and Horses’ actor said: “I’d like to do something on there to cheer it up. In times of recession lives are a bit dreary so they don’t want 'EastEnders' where they keep slitting each other’s throats. What intrigues me is that there are funny people in the real East End. It’s famous for it.” [Sunday Mirror]
