A mixed bag of famous faces will take a journey of discovery around their favourite UK historic sites in a fascinating new six part series.

Celebs including Bill Bailey, Peter Snow and Konnie Huq will be among those involved in the new show, exclusive to The History Channel, starting May 8 at 8pm.

Each of the six episodes sees the host presenter explore their chosen site, examining the role it played in history, delving into the myths and folklore surrounding the location, and explaining what it is about the place that they find so captivating.

In the first episode comedian Bill Bailey takes a prehistoric mystery tour around Stonehenge, meeting an unusual mix of archaeologists and druids and investigating why this historic place attracts so many visitors and what is it about the enigmatic setting that still baffles scientists today.

Episode two follows interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen on his tour of Eltham Palace. Originally built as a medieval palace and later serving as Henry VIII's boyhood home, Eltham Palace was lovingly restored in the 1930s to become an ultra-modern party pad for the pre-war elite. Laurence draws out the stories behind each design detail in this unique and stunning house.

In episode five, Konnie Huq visits Queen Victoria's stunning island hideaway, Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. Konnie presents a moving tour of the Royal home, which was designed by Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert specifically as a retreat where they could lead a 'normal' family life.

In the series' final instalment, zoologist and TV presenter Charlotte Uhlenbroek explores the ruins of Cornwall's 1000 year old Tintagel Castle. The historic spot is forever linked to King Arthur and Charlotte investigates the truth behind the legend, unearthing a story of political spin which continues to resonate over 800 hundred years later.

My Favourite Place: Thursdays at 8pm on The History Channel, commencing 8 May 2008.
