Girls Aloud battled it out with the band during Popstars: The Rivals and beat them to become Christmas No 1 in 2002 - and despite One True Voice getting to No 2, they were dropped by their record label and split up.
The Sun reported the contestant-come-judge told him: "I always though you were fantastic."
He turned up to the London audition on Tuesday and sang Seal's Kiss From A Rose.
The four judges gave him a 'Yes' and Simon blasted Louis for "letting Daniel go".
However, Louis pointed out that he had managed Girl's Aloud while Pete Waterman looked after the boy band.
