It's more than 20 years since Michael Brandon became a household name in Dempsey and Makepeace, the show in which he met his wife, Glynis Barber, but he's still in demand.
This year he has guest starred in Trial and Retribution and The Bill, and on December 1 he will pop up in Casualty.
He might be able to turn his hand to any genre, but it's a good bet he won't be taking part in Celebrity Big Brother, if it ever returns to TV.
"It's really awful," he sighs. "It's like being in a pet shop where the owners smoke and nothing's cared for. It's just repulsive."
That reality show might leave him reaching for the off button, but mention anything related to Marlon Brando and watch Michael's eyes light up.
"On the Waterfront is my favourite film," he enthuses. "A few weeks ago I did the play with Steven Berkoff directing; the only reason I did it was because it's why I became an actor. "Those scenes with Brando, Eva Marie Saint and Rod Steiger - just fabulous."
The obvious question is: would he like to appear in a new run of the show which helped make his name, Dempsey and Makepeace?
"I think 20 years on it could be fascinating to see where they are now and do a fresh, new version," he says.
